“DON’T CHOKE ON THE BONES” BOOK READING
On Thursday, July 14 at 1:00pm at the Senior Center, join local author Michele Minott for a reading from her recently published book “Don’t Choke on the Bones.”
“Don’t Choke on the Bones” is a book of essays, many of which are autobiographical. The book is in three parts. The first part, Rockaway Days, chronicles Michele’s early childhood between the ages of six and eight, during which she spent three enchanted summers in a coastal town in Queens called Rockaway. This was in the late 1950s, a time when life was slower, simpler, and sweeter.
Part 2, Ode to my Dad, is a tribute to her father, with whom she had a special relationship. He would often tease her and make her laugh, saying “now you know what it’s like to have an older brother.” He was so empathetic and kind that he once took a homeless man out for breakfast.
Part 3, Don’t Choke on the Bones, includes a number of essays reflecting more widely on social and political issues. As a political junkie, Michele frequently wrote letters to the editors of both the Boston Globe and the Brookline Tab. Many of her essays are filtered through a philosophical lens, which is how she sees life.
